Game Designer

Yellow Brick Games is hiring a game designer to join our team of experienced developers working on an exciting new IP. In this role, you will work closely with engineers, animators, level designers and our game director to create enemies that challenges our players and foster engaging gameplay experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leverage our core game mechanics and systems to design a roster of enemy archetypes.  These enemies should be highly replay-able and reward skillful play.
  • Alongside other team members implement these archetypes from prototype to polish form.
  • With the help of other team members, setup an efficient production process for implementing and balancing enemy archetypes.
  • Collaborate with our game director to design and implement character progression systems that feed the combat experience.
  • Partner with the rest of the gameplay team to ensure deep interaction between player abilities, environments, and enemies.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years of experience as a game designer and taking games from concept to completion.
  • At least one shipped AAA or AA title in the PC or console space.
  • Experience and passion for designing combat challenges in action-rpgs.
  • Comfortable prototyping in Unreal Engine.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Self-sufficient and resourceful; able to identify and work with technical constraints.
  • Experience using AI planners (e.g. HTN), a plus.

Technical Character Artist

Yellow Brick Games is hiring a Technical Character Artist to join our team of experienced developers working on an exciting new IP. In this role, you will work closely with the character team and art director to innovate on the visual style and facilitate, as well as contribute to, the production of characters in the game.

Yellow Brick Games is based in Quebec City, Canada, and we are open to discuss remote-work situations. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with the lead artists and art director to develop the visual style for characters and creatures in the game through Shaders and other pipeline work
  • Development of the visual target for stylized hair, fur, and feathers
  • Identify technical needs in the project related to characters  
  • Assist with modeling of characters and creatures if needed
  • Assist with the rigging and animation team if needed
  • Maintain and organize the material library
  • Optimize shaders and post-processes whilst maintaining visual quality
REQUIREMENTS
  • Has shipped at least one AAA title
  • Excellent art skills with a critical eye for detail and quality
  • Knowledge in Unreal Engine of Shaders and Materials and experience in visual scripting languages
  • Knowledge of Zbrush, Maya, and Substance Designer or Painter
  • Knowledge of anatomy
  • Visual and technical understanding of sculpting, 3D modeling and surfaces
  • Understanding of textures, masks, and creation of tileable textures
  • Understanding of optimization in meshes as well as textures and rigging
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Self-sufficient and resourceful
  • Familiar with Perforce
  • Experience with tools development in Python is a plus
